| Rui started racing karts in his native Portugal
in 1991 and finished runner-up in the National Kart Championship
twice in 1993 and ’94. He made his racing car debut
in 1995, driving a Formula Ford in Portugal, and returned
to karts to win his first (and until 2004, his only) race
in the UK. In 1996 he continued to race single seaters,
but his main focus was winning the Portuguese National Kart
Championship – which he did in style. Rui raced in
the 2000 Formula BMW Junior Cup, and halfway through 2001
he stopped racing in order to finish his education in England
– gaining a degree in Automotive Engineering at Kingston
University. Since then he has been preparing for his return
to racing, and selected the 2004 SEAT Cupra Championship
ahead of Formula BMW and Formula Renault after driving a
SEAT Sport UK-prepared Leon Cupra R. Rui is sponsored by
