| Spencer's racing career took off in 1998 when he contested the JRRDS Formula Vauxhall Championship, recording 1 pole, 1 fastest lap, a lap record at Donington and 3rd in the drivers' championship. In 1999 he drove with Marque Cars Racing and finished 12th in the Formula Vauxhall Championship and also contested 4 Formula Ford races - recording 4 podiums, 1 pole and 1 fastest lap. In 2000, Spencer moved to the Lotus Sport Elise Championship, scoring 7 podium results, finishing 4th in series and winning the Rookie of the Year Award. He returned to the series the following year, recording 1 race win, 5 podiums, 1 pole, 1 fastest lap and 5th in the series. The 2002 season elevated Spencer to new heights. Driving a Beacon Motorsport Honda, Spencer scored 2 class wins and 7 podium results to finish 3rd in the BTC Production Class. In 2003 he finished 8th in the Holiday Inn SEAT Cupra Championship, with his best result coming with 2nd place in the opening race. Spencer is sponsored by Beacon Sports Management. |
