| Ben won the 2002 Caterham Academy Championship
title before he was even old enough to drive a car on the
public highway, clinching the title in style by qualifying
on pole 4 times for the 5 races (winning 3 times) and finished
on the podium in all 3 sprint events. For this he was presented
with the Peter Collins Trophy as the BARC's 'Newcomer of
the Year'. Ben entered the SEAT Cupra Championship in 2003
as part of a 3 year plan. He made excellent progress and
qualified 6th at Rockingham before suffering a big shunt
in the second race of the day (caused by a rear puncture
entering the chicane) - followed by a 100mph accident in
qualifying at Thruxton that was without doubt the biggest
crash of the series. The strength of the Leon Cupra R saved
Ben from serious injury, although heavy bruising and concussion
kept him in hospital for 3 days. He returned to the SEAT
series at Brands Hatch and was immediately running at his
post-Rockingham pace - setting the scene for another focused
SEAT Cupra Championship campaign in 2004. Ben is sponsored
by Telemecanique. |
