Dream race for Boardman

Tom Boardman’s plan of making a good start from pole and leading all the way to the chequered flag worked like a dream as he won Round 9 of the Smartnav SEAT Cupra Championship at Croft circuit in his Special Tuning UK/Triple R Leon Cupra R.

Mat Jackson (Whale Tankers/Jackson Motorsport Leon Cupra R) was pushed into the back of Carl Breeze (Blue Chip Group/Barwell Motorsport Leon Cupra R) at the first corner. Despite a slightly squashed exhaust, Carl held off Mat to finish 2nd after a tremendous race.

Alan Blencowe (Blue Diamond/Barwell Motorsport Leon Cupra R) spun into the infield at the Chicane on lap one, ruining his race.

It’s wasn’t the Churchill’s finest hour. Ian Churchill (Bedford Battery Co/Churchill Motorsport Leon Cupra R) also went off at the Chicane to leave Tom Ferrier (Darwin/Team Parker Racing Leon Cupra R) unchallenged in 4th, while brother Adrian Churchill (Bedford Battery Co/Churchill Motorsport Leon Cupra R) failed come into the pits for a drive through penalty and was excluded from 6th place after ignoring the black flag.

Mark Cole (Bovis Lend Lease/Team Parker Racing Leon Cupra R) was not only rewarded for repairing his car in time after its huge qualifying collision at Oulton Park, but he finished 5th and scored a bonus point for being the most improved on grid position – having started 10th.

“The plan was to make a good start from pole, get away and drive on the mirrors, and that’s what happened,” said Tom. “My tyres started to go off half way through the race, but I knew it would be happening to the others too, so I just kept my head. Everything’s worked out perfectly.”

Faultless drive from Jackson

Mat Jackson (Whale Tankers/Jackson Motorsport Leon Cupra R) drove a faultless race to win Round 10 of the Smartnav SEAT Cupra Championship – having led from start to finish.

At a hot and humid Croft circuit in North Yorkshire, the 24-year old driver from Henley-in-Arden in the West Midlands made a great start and never gave Tom Boardman (Special Tuning UK/Triple R Leon Cupra R) a chance to overtake, even though the Championship leader shadowed Mat every step of the way. Such was their pace that they’d pulled out a six and a half second gap over 3rd placed Carl Breeze (Blue Chip Group/Barwell Motorsport Leon Cupra R) by the end of the race.

In a very clean race, Tom Ferrier (Darwin/Team Parker Racing Leon Cupra R) finished 4th after a good battle with Breeze, while Alan Blencowe (Blue Diamond/Barwell Motorsport Leon Cupra R) overtook Adrian Churchill (Bedford Battery Co/Churchill Motorsport Leon Cupra R) to finish 5th.

The unlucky Mark Cole (Bovis Lend Lease/Team Parker Racing Leon Cupra R) was in 7th and catching Churchill when he came into the pits and retired on the final lap with overheating problems.

Jackson scored an extra point for setting the fastest lap of the race, while Henry Taylor (Mortgage Strategy magazine/Total Control Racing Leon Cupra R) scored a bonus point for making the best improvement on grid position.

Remarkably, the first seven finishers all started in that order too.
